Sisters and Robins

The last week has been fast and furious! My older sisters (76 & 78) came from Washington state and we ate,yakked,took a trip to pick up a quilt that was at the quilter who, of course, delivered it to a great fabric store for me! My sisters thought that was fun. Especially the one (78) that likes to sew also.( Of course we "had" to stop at Starbucks on the way home.) I had done some re-construction on a some crazy quilt blocks she put together out of her scraps and left here a couple years ago and she was so happy at the results. So, that gave her the incentive to finish it. We sat at the table and went through my old tin bread box full of lace,bias bindings from the days of making clothes, we laughed at the prices still attached! She found some she liked so it will be used after all the time in a box!!! We "attacked" my stash cupboard and she found a perfect 54" flannel fabric for the backing. I then threw in a stack of fabric she liked to make aprons . She liked my "scrap bag" that hangs on the sewing machine table. So she picked out a fabric she liked and I made her one and got it in the mail today to her. One day we had lunch at the lovely local hotel garden,my sisters treat!! The day before they left we went to a great local Chinese restaurant for dinner on the shores of our famous large Clearlake,again my sisters treat! We ate outside on the patio overlooking the lake! Although the opposite side of the lake was "socked" in with smoke from all the wildfires in the area, the lake was clear of the smoke. We do have lots of smoke in the hills around us and my eyes are irritated when I am outside. I am a happy tired and it has taken a few days to get things cleaned up and put away. Remember the Grandbirdies? They flew out of the nest Sunday! Just 37 days after the nest was started! The Pop & Mom Robins liked us so much they were eating cherries and strawberries off of the table. The last baby to leave the nest! Here is where it landed on its flight from the nest. My sis's really got a kick out of that! I really need to get busy on my UFO's! October will be here soon!

Saturday Market

Last Saturday my friend Louise(sitting) and I helped "man" a booth at the local Saturday Street Farmers Market day in my town! As you can see it was to sell tickets for our Opportunity Quilt "Trees" from http://llqg.org Louise is really a good ticket sales gal! The little table held fabric blocks that were stenciled with cute objects,flowers,dinosaurs,etc. We encouraged the children that came by w/parents to sit down in the adorable 1950's chairs and color w/the crayons and gave them instructions so they could then use the block on a Tee Shirt or pillow,etc. It was a slow and hot day and there were not many vendors. Good thing it was only until 12 p.m! The ticket sales were actually pretty good considering the small "crowd". But we had fun seeing folks that we hadn't seen for a long time and "chatting". Elizabeth (standing) is the "Chairman" she has volunteered to "do" this for the next few months in various events around our county! It is a lot of work setting up and taking down. After we folded up and loaded everything into Elizabeths truck we then walked around the corner to have lunch at the only resturant in this little town. Yum-O! Well, my sisters are arriving today from Washington state and will be here for the rest of the week! I have much to do in preparing for their arrival! I am so behind!

The Family

Can you believe this,it was taken yesterday at lunch time ?!! The 4th one hatched on Sunday. Their eyes are not open but they know what is coming ! With their beaks wide open! The "parents" have just fed some of them and they are waiting for dessert!!! See the worm in the "Papa's" beak? The "Mama" is giving him instructions I think!!I checked my calendar and this all started with the nest building on May 25th!

A Friend In Need

Just a few months ago I learn that a friend of about 20 years has the early stages of Dementia!I was saddened for her as she and I had our first quilting class together about 8 years ago. It was a 1 year class and we learned alot together and have shared a room at retreat for 3 years. All in all a good relationship. With another mutual friend of ours we went to visit her and it was then she reveled that her drivers license was taken away. We didn't press her for the "why". I just can't imagine her distress over that, I would be devastated if that happens to me!!! She outwardly seemed to have accepted this situation. She said she had not finished a quilt for one of her daughters and had 2 other daughters that she planned quilts for. So, a couple of my quilty friends and I said we would do that for her. This is the one that I have two thirds of the attic blocks finished. I want to finish all my UFO's as we never know what is waiting for us!!

Grandbirdies are Here!

This morning we were having our coffee on the patio. Positioned so we could watch Momma Robin tending the nest. She was flying back and forth with what looked like "food" and dropping it in the nest. "Holy Moses" the babies have hatched!!! How did that happen, seems like just yesterday she was building it!! So, here comes the Papa Robin w/goodies also. Well, he shows up after she does all the sitting! Good thing! We just sat there for about an hour and watch this "caregiving" going on! Doesn't take much to entertain us!!! There is still one egg to hatch,don't worry we will keep checking and update you!

A "Wow" Day at Guild

Yesterday was such a fun day at the llqg.org meeting we had a wonderful trunkshow presented by Melinda Bula! A fabric artist! She has won so many awards for her creations including clothes!! OMG,you just wait and see. When you look at the photos, click on them to enlarge for a really good looksee! We had standing room only at the meeting! The young blond model is a junior guild member; she is ONLY 12! Check out her cowgirl boots....so cool. She didn't know she was going to be a model that day! I am only posting some of the clothes, I helped to hold the wall quilts so didn't get any photos of those, but, I know others did. I will post others later.
